Alexa Sucks
ALEXA SUCKS
What is Alexa.com?
Basically Alexa encourages internet users to install a toolbar onto their pc and then they use the information from the users to create a database of information. This is supposed to tell you which sites on the net are the most popular.
Why?
Many experts have realised that Alexa rankings are at best a rough guide to web site traffic and the aim of this blog is to put an end once and for all to the excessive importance people place on Alexa rankings.
The Challenge
There is a special section on the Alexa homepage entitled "Movers and Shakers". Basically this section is a special section for the web sites that have vastly increased or decreased in popularity in a short space of time.
My aim is to get my Alexa Sucks blog into the movers and shakers top 3, thus putting the words "Alexa sucks" on the Alexa.com homepage.
It may be childish, but I would find it very amusing, and I am sure that it would be a great way of showing millions of web site owners that they should worry more about creating unique and interesting web sites instead of worrying about Google pagerank and Alexa rankings etc...
The Plan
We need to get a huge amount of hits from people in a short space of time. So on August 1st I would like as many people as possible to visit this page at least 5 times per day
(Install the Alexa toolbar first). If enough people are aware of this challenge then there is a good possiblity of getting our message on the Alexa homepage by the end of August and "ALEXA SUCKS" will be seen by millions of Alexa users.
Please help
So please email all your friends and tell them about this web page. If you have a blog or a web site then please mention my quest to your site users. If you post on any forums then put a link to this page in your signature etc.....
With your help we can pull the greatest online prank since the "miserable failure" google bomb.
Disclaimer
I am NOT against the idea or the principals behind Alexa, but over the years certain industries have placed far too much emphasis on the results from Alexa. Millions of web site owners still boast about their Alexa rankings and people selling web sites still use Alexa rankings as a major selling point. I am not saying that we should stop using Alexa, it has its purposes and can be fairly useful in estimating traffic of other websites.
